Holy hera! Only fifteen days till I report to the MTC. That's two weeks from tomorrow!
And...am I prepared?
Um. Can I get a resounding "no".
But this is an important realization I came to recently.
Especially with the recent age change and abounding amount of missionaries going out, the questions "Are you nervous? Are you ready yet? Are you prepared?" come up an awful lot. Which is okay. But this is important to remember: It's not about being a perfectly prepared missionary that knows every scripture and never wastes time or makes mistakes. Those don't exist. It's about being a willing servant of the Lord doing the best you can out there. In other words, it's not about preparing enough; it's about preparing the best you can.
By the time I enter the MTC, I will still be a struggling person with character flaws and weaknesses and quirks and imperfections. By the time I get home from my mission, I'll still be all of those things. But that doesn't matter, because guess what? Everyone is like that! Everyone has problems, everyone is broken. Everyone needs help. No one can do it alone. I'm just joining 75,000 other imperfect missionaries to teach imperfect people about the only person who is perfect. I'm going to do the best I can to help them find their way to Christ-- and I know I will be brought closer to Him in the process.
The perfect person to do the Lord's work is the imperfect person. And the best time to start becoming better is now. Whether you're going on a mission or not, God doesn't expect perfection of you-- he just expects your best. Rely on Him, use the Atonement. I've been learning a lot about that recently. No matter how many times you mess up, as long as you recommit with a sincere desire to do better, He will help you and you will become stronger.
That's my two cents for today. Much love!
